چکیده

The editors of these CoSMoS Workshop Proceedings have invited us to describe the two sides of our joint approach to computer simulation of biological systems: the biological side and the computer science side. Irun Cohen, an immunologist, will voice the biological side; David Harel, a computer scientist, will voice the computer science side.

CoSMoS: a visual environment for component-based modeling, experimental design, and simulation

An integrated modeling and simulation tool called Componentbased System Modeler and Simulator (CoSMoS) is developed. It supports visual development of families of models that have well-defined logical specifications. The logical componentbased models persist in relational databases and may be automatically translated into specific target simulation and markup programming languages. The underlyi...

An Application of CoSMoS Design Methods to Pedestrian Simulation

In this paper, we discuss the implementation of a simple pedestrian simulation that uses a multi agent based design pattern developed by the CoSMoS research group. Given the nature of Multi Agent Systems (MAS), parallel processing techniques are inevitably used in their implementation. Most of these approaches rely on conventional parallel programming techniques, such as threads, Message Passin...

Spitzer 70 and 160 μ m Observations of the COSMOS Field

We present Spitzer 70 and 160 μm observations of the COSMOS Spitzer survey (S-COSMOS). The data processing techniques are discussed for the publicly released products consisting of images and source catalogs. We present accurate 70 and 160 μm source counts of the COSMOS field and find reasonable agreement with measurements in other fields and with model predictions. The previously reported coun...

Colliding Satellites: Consequences and Implications

The collision on February 10, 2009 between the Iridium 33 satellite and the defunct Cosmos 2251 satellite at an altitude of 470 miles (770 km) significantly increases the amount of space debris in the region of space that is already the most crowded and has the greatest risk of collisions between orbiting objects. The debris cloud created by this collision is like a shotgun blast that threatens...

COSMOS 5921+0638: Characterization and analysis of a new strong gravitationally lensed AGN

Context. Recently, new strong lens candidates have been discovered within the COSMOS field. Here we present VLT/FORS1 spectroscopic follow-up observations and HST/WFPC2 imaging of the system COSMOS 5921+0638, which shows quadruply lensed images and a perfect Einstein ring. Aims. With the available observations of COSMOS 5921+0638 we study the nature of the system as well as its photometric, spe...
